My Sleep Story

My husband and I really wanted a baby. It was very difficult for this to happen for us so we relied on the support of fertility treatments. First round, and bam! We were pregnant. We were SO excited. We took every class, read every book, watched every app. I was ready for nursing, car seat safety, and how to put on every baby carrier on the market. We were ready to feel tired. We weren’t prepared to teach sleep skills because that wasn’t offered by anyone, anywhere. All we heard was “get ready to never sleep again” and we were ready for that! Being tired isn’t a big deal. We got this…

I felt awful. I felt sick. I felt guilty and ashamed and my anxiety was out of hand. I even needed to go back on anti- anxiety medication. I couldn’t live like this. My son Navy turned 4 months and we started sleep training. The decision to do so completely changed my life. I didn’t dread my time with my son and I was able to get back to spending time with my husband. My mental and physical health improved drastically.

Prior to taking the plunge into the wonderful world of sleep training, I spent about 15 years in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I oversaw many cases of children with Autism and other behavioral needs, while offering support and parent training. As a team, we focused on the teaching of positive behavior and decreasing the need for children to engage in maladaptive behaviors. This behavior modification was data driven and implemented with the full support of the team. With my extensive experience in the field of ABA, sleep training spoke to my heart! I not only loved being able to see the progress through daily data collection, but I felt as though it was a team effort to teach my son one of the most important life skills. My goal is to ensure every family feels as though they have a team behind them from start to finish.
